Overview

Lead Chapter efforts to develop and expand marketing and community relations by building a strong relationship with the local media, community leaders and organizations. Responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic marketing and public relations campaign to inform and involve the public about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

 

Reports to:         Works under the supervision of the chapter Executive Director or assigned staff

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a strategic marketing and public relations campaign to inform the public about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society services and to increase awareness and participation in LLS activities, programs and events which will enable LLS to achieve it’s ultimate goal: develop cures for blood cancer.
  • Works closely with the LLS Senior Leadership to promote all activities, events, programs and special projects.
  • Responsible for all LLS social media content, update, promotion and coordination.
  • Acts as primary Media Contact (radio, TV, newspaper and other publications) to inform
  • community of total scope of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)
  • Proactively searches out opportunities for interviews and speaking engagements to promote LLS.
  • Responsible for producing public service announcements, news articles, and advertisements for television, radio, and print media in coordination with the LLS NHQ Marketing and Communications Department, Patient Services Department, and Chapter Executive Director.
  • Review and edit all written material intended for public dissemination to ensure content and “voice" is consistent with LLS policy.
  • Recruit and manage a volunteer committee to support public relations, advertising and
  • marketing campaigns.
  • Recruit and provide training to volunteers to represent and assist the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at local fundraising events, assemblies, speaker’s forums, community fairs, patient educational programs and other chapter events.
  • Maintain and update database with media and community contacts.
  • Develop and Coordinate activities and events that increase the visibility and recognition of all campaigns and activities of LLS and associated with LLS.
  • Secures, at no charge whenever possible, admittance to sports events, musical and dramatic stage presentations, local museums and other events or activities suitable to serve as stewardship of key donors or in support of LLS activities.
  • Actively solicits donor sources for third party fundraising and other in-kind gifts and services in coordination with Senior Leadership.
  • Other written or verbal duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or other Senior Leadership staff.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • BA degree in Marketing or Communications or equivalent in experience required.
  • Minimum of three years business experience, non-profit experience helpful. 3-5 years public relations, marketing, public affairs or journalism experience Grant Writing experience desired.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with ability to learn additional software as appropriate.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required (including public speaking).
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills in a fast paced environment; ability to manage details of multiple and complex projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, initiate, market, and evaluate donor relations campaigns.
  • Must be able to travel as required. Current valid Driver’s license.
  • Ability to track on multiple tasks efficiently, completing each in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Ability to strategically define priorities and execute tactically with great efficiency. Self directed team player who is willing to help on any and all projects as necessary.
  • Established relationships with bloggers, technology press, and strong understanding of social media desired.
  • Proven track record of successfully coordinating and executing marketing campaigns around retail and or mass merchandising product launches.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and participate effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record of facilitating/booking press through major newspapers, radio stations, television and internet.
  • Professional judgment and integrity in handling confidential material.
